Crate House
- Type: Single Family Dwelling
- Location: Western Unities States
- Square Footage: 2000 S.F
- Construction: Milk Crate / ICF

Front Perspective

The front facade of the Crate House strives to be unassuming, blending in comfortably with more any residential neighborhood. The lack of windows towards the front and centralized entry point provide a comfortable dwelling space for a family.

Porch View

The Porch Space serves as both the entry space of the house and exterior public space. Terracing above provides adequate sun shading during the hot summer, with additional storage bins for garage storage.

Backyard Perspective

The Backyard space has a direct connection with the interior kitchen space, allowing kids to play safely outside while being closely montiored by their parents working inside the kitchen. A backyard patio is provided with ample shade given by the overhanging roof.

Living Space

Seclusion and privacy from the exterior street is explored here, with no large openings at the ground plane facing the street. Skylights flank the entire upper space, allowing controlled yet copious amounts of light into the space.

Family Space

Proposed as the secondary living space only to be utlized by the family, this space allows parents to let their kids play and learn in a controled environment separate from the more public living and kitchen space. Copious amounts of lighting come in from the eastern curtain wall facade.

Kitchen

opening op towards the environment was a big design factor with the kitchen, as a curtain wall window system allows ample light into the kitchen. This architectural condition also allows parents to easily watch their kids play as they use the kitchen for daily activities.

Hallway

The central Hallway connecting the Family Den and Living Space is visually treated as a ciruclatory barrier between the public and private space of the house. The long narrow corridor enhances the privateness, making the entry into the much brighter Family Space more dramatic.

Section AA

A sectional study of the Create House, cut longitudinally through the exterior patio deck and backyard space looking North. The circulatory path between the Family Den and backyard is explored here, with a direct path leading out towards the backyard provided.

Section BB

A sectional study of the Create House, cut longitudinally through the Private Wing looking North. Here the dynamic between the family spaces is shown, with the central family space anchoring the Master Bedroom and secondary bedrooms.
